TameāÆImpala is the psychedelic music project of Australian singerāsongwriter and multiāinstrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the studio Parker writes, records, performs and produces all of the project's material himself. The music is released under the TameāÆImpala name and is marketed as a band for live performances.
Formation and Backstory
Kevin Parker began releasing music under the TameāÆImpala moniker in the late 2000s, initially signing with Modular Recordings. The project later moved to Interscope Records in the United States and Fiction Records in the United Kingdom. TameāÆImpala shares a close affiliation with the Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, with members and collaborators moving between the two groups.
The live incarnation of TameāÆImpala was assembled to translate Parker's studio recordings to the stage, expanding the project beyond a solo studio effort.
Style and Influences
The project's sound is rooted in psychedelic rock, blending vintageāera textures with modern production techniques. Parker's approach combines melodic songwriting with layered instrumentation, creating a distinctive, immersive listening experience that aligns with contemporary psychedelic and alternative rock trends.
