Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam (1946‑2020), popularly known as S.P. Balasubrahmanyam or SPB, was an Indian playback singer, television presenter, actor, music composer, dubbing artist and film producer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian singers of all time and recorded songs in at least 16 languages, spanning Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi cinema.
Formation and Backstory
Balasubrahmanyam was born on 4 June 1946. He began his professional singing career in the mid‑1960s, quickly becoming a sought‑after playback voice for South Indian film industries. Over a career that spanned more than five decades, he contributed to thousands of film soundtracks and numerous independent recordings.
In addition to playback singing, SPB worked as a television presenter, actor, composer, dubbing artist and film producer, showcasing a versatile presence in Indian entertainment.
