Overview
Baal HaSulam is the title commonly used for Yehuda Leib Ha‑Levi Ashlag (1885–1954), an Orthodox rabbi, kabbalist, and author of the influential commentary on the Zohar known as the *Sulam*. He was born in Łuków, then part of Congress Poland, and lived in the Holy Land from 1922 until his death. While primarily a religious and philosophical figure, his name has occasionally appeared in musical contexts, notably in classical arrangements that set his teachings or related texts to music.
